ArrowAsk A Scientist

You have questions about nature. We all do. Environmental scientists begin their research by asking a question about how a natural system works and then designing a step-by-step method to learn the answer.

Examples of Questions Scientists Ask
  • How can we make the water cleaner in our lakes and rivers?
  • Why is the water murky in the river? Can fish live there?
  • Do we have more flooding problems today than we used to? If so, why?
  • Are there fewer bees to pollinate my flowers today than there were 5 years ago?
  • How can I encourage more types of native plants and flowers to grow in the prairie?

You are a Citizen Scientist Seeking answers to environmental questions is one step you can take towards becoming a citizen scientist. Ask your question here and a scientist from one of our EcoMyth Chicago participants will answer. Although our 2009 theme is "Water in Chicago: How does it work and how does it affect me?", we encourage any environmental questions you may have about our region.

Our expert may reply to you directly; or the answer to your question may be posted on our EMC website on the "Ask a Scientist" page. Click here to ask a conservation question: science@ecomythschicago.org.
